Parliament approves Lenku, Kambi nominations
Parliament has approved the appointment of Jospeh Ole Lenku and Samwel Kazungu Kambi as cabinet secretaries. Members of Parliament who debated and adopted the report by the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments approved their recommendations that the two were suitable to hold their positions in the interior and labor ministries. SRC warns salary officers over MPs
The bad news for Members of Parliament did not come from the president. Indeed, the Salaries And Remuneration Commission and the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution came out strongly against what they termed an attempt by parliament to enforce an illegality. The commissions have now been it clear to those in charge of the payroll at the national assembly that they would be held personally liable should they pay the MPs a single shilling above the salaries set by the salaries commission. Search ongoing for alleged defiled Limuru dog
To that strange story from Limuru now, and the search is still ongoing for a dog that was allegedly defiled by a middle-aged man in Limuru in the County of Kiambu. This is after the police asked the locals to look for the animal. The man believed to have engaged in a sexual act with the dog was arrested on Tuesday at the scene of the crime and taken to Tigoni Police Station. The accused appeared calm and at peace even as the village came to a standstill over his alleged un-orthodox act. Neighbors claim that they witnessed the beastly act, and have promptly been advised to find the missing dog that is in this case both victims. And just as well, complainant.
Kenyan woman found dead at house in Germany
In Germany, a decomposing body of a Kenyan woman has been found in her home in Cologne. It has not been explained how and when the woman died. The news of her death was posted on Facebook, by some Kenyans living in Germany who were looking for information on her identity and that of her family. Through the social network it was discovered that the deceased was the daughter of Transport and Licensing Board Chairman, Hassan Ole Kamwaro. The bereaved Kamwaro family had already received the sad news when we contacted them earlier on Wednesday.

Boeing assures customers of safety
As airframe manufacturer Boeing seeks to reassure customers about the safety and delivery schedule for the 787 aircraft, NTV's Business Editor Wallace Kantai spoke to the company's executives in charge of the engineering and sales of the aircraft. Storm of malfunctioning Dreamliner batteries is over
The delivery schedule of local carrier Kenya Airways' first Boeing 787 will not be affected by the problem of battery malfunctions the manufacturer has faced in some of its aeroplanes. The battery malfunctions whose cause or causes Boeing admits that it does not definitively know, resulted in the grounding of 50 Dreamliners used by various airlines globally. And as Alex Mwangi reports, the malfunctioning of the batteries was a passing cloud, albeit a stormy cloud, which the aeroplane manufacturer believes, is now behind it.
The demand for funding for small and medium enterprises in Africa is estimated at between 80 to 100 billion dollars, or an equivalent of at least 6.7 trillion shillings at the current exchange rate. This is according to the Felix Bikpo, the Chief Executive Officer of the African Guarantee Fund, a fund that aims to significantly increase the access to funds by SMEs. Despite both Government and private sector input in creating funding pools for SMEs, the funding deficit in the continent is still huge.

Nairobi is the most difficult place to do business in the country; this is of 13 major localities surveyed by the World Bank.

This survey, dubbed, Doing Business in Kenya 2012, may point to the areas that the new governments may need to address amid promises for growth, as the country's ease of doing business has dropped by 12 positions globally.
National Bank bucks the trend, reports a heavy dip in profitability
The National Bank of Kenya posted a 53 per cent dip in profit before tax for the year 2012, to 1.1 billion shillings from the 2.4 billion shillings it earned the previous year. The fall in profits is attributed to the high interest rate environment, which prevailed for much of 2012, and the 165 per cent surge in interest expense to 3.6 billion shillings. Managing Director Munir Ahmed says the fall in profits was occasioned not by fundamental errors but rather as a result of the difficult operating environment during the year.

Matatu Owners Association to introduce new strategy to curb fare hikes

Kenya to launch $1bn sovereign bond in H2 of 2013
Optimism in Kenya's economic outlook for the year has seen the economy resuming normalcy; this is according to Finance Minister Njeru Githae.
And as an action point partly borne of that confidence, the infrastructure development agenda is going to get a boost. The Government has signaled its intention to float a one-billion dollar sovereign bond in the international market; an equivalent of about 86 billion shillings in the second half of the year. Githae says the bulk of the proceeds from the bond will be spent on infrastructure.
Pepsi back in Kenyan market after decades
After decades of absence, soft drink Pepsi is being manufactured in Kenya again. New bottling company, Seven-Up Bottling Company, which will bottle Pepsi brands in Kenya, has opened a plant in Nairobi's Baba Dogo area. The move to set up the plant is expected to heighten competition in the soda segment, which so far has been the preserve of American giant Coca-Cola, and the homegrown Softa. Residents protest re-appointment of Ndua
There has been uproar at the coast over the reappointment of Gichiri Ndua as the Managing Director of the Kenya Ports' Authority. The Muslim For Human Rights Organisation, MUHURI, has termed the move as unconstitutional and illegal saying that due process was not followed. The Minister of Transport Amos Kimunya has been accused of overstepping his mandate. The reappointment comes in the middle of heated debate on the merits of privatizing the port.
Keroche alleges dirty tactics by competitors
Beer brand wars may be foaming up a notch higher as the election approaches with Naivasha based Keroche Breweries Limited crying foul over what the brewer terms as skewed marketing strategies that employ political polarization. The brewer is pointing a finger at its competition saying that they have used hate speech to market their products in a way that called for a boycott of the Keroche products, something that has affected their sales. Former referee sues FKF over assault
A football match official Martin Wekesa Wamalwa is suing the Football Kenya Federation after soccer hooligans attacked him last year. The 42 year old is accusing FKF of complacency in dealing with his matter after he was seriously injured during a national Division 1 match last year between Sparki Youth and Admiral FC in Mombasa. According to Wekesa, the bans on the perpetrators were insufficient. He is therefore seeking close to Sh20 million shillings in compensation since he cannot perform his conjugal duties. Super Sport to broadcast nation football league live
For the first time ever, the national League will be broadcast live on television. This comes following a deal between Super Sport and Football Kenya Federation. Under the agreement, Super Sport will broadcast 20 matches from the nation's second tier league, starting this month. The nationwide league is split into Zone A and B with each zone having 20 teams each. The winner of each zone is promoted to Top flight football. Ace rally driver's grandson killed
The grandson of legendary Safari Rally driver Joginder Singh, 30 year old Ricky Balraj was murdered early Sunday morning after three gangsters attacked their home. The family was held at gunpoint and the gangsters made away with 25,000 shillings as well as a Mercedes Benz. Kenyan born Daniel Adongo has been named in a 40-man Southern Kings squad ahead of the 2013 Super Rugby Competition. The premier rugby tournament features clubs from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. The Kings make their debut at the expense of fellow South African side Lions who were relegated after finishing bottom at the end of the 2012 tournament. Adongo was part of the Elgon Warriors squad that played against England Counties in Kampala and Nairobi in June last year.
